Last week I had the great fortune to participate in this year’s Refresh Road Trip, a speaking tour that took us to Durham, NC, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, and finally Boston, MA. We visited Refresh chapters and front-end/designer meetups and were incredibly impressed by the folks we came across.
A very hearty thanks to all of the event hosts and local meetup members that we met, everyone was amazingly hospitable. All in all we traveled about 2,000 miles, went through 10 states, spoke at 6 venues, ate pizza 5 days in a row (113 pizzas ordered in total, btw), and “enjoyed” 1 Taco Bell breakfast 😉
This year we chose the topic of “constraints” for the tour and offered three separate views on the subject. My presentation, titled Check ↠Balance covered the topic from the angle of applying constraints to projects and teams. I’m looking forward to expanding this talk as I think the theme is one which has a lot of impact on how we make decisions that affect productivity and the happiness of our teams.
Thanks again to Shay Howe, Jon Buda, and Brad Wilkening for the ride, it was a ton of fun and I hope we dropped some knowledge on some folks along the way.
